nothing is wasted
From start to finish, each piece is designed to use as much ocean plastic as possible. The silver bezel (sides) is 3mm tall. In order to set a piece properly the plastic needs to be 3mm tall as well. Finding a piece of useable plastic from a beach clean that’s exactly 3mm tall is very rare. So, white plastic that isn’t used in any of the collections are glued to the bottom of each piece to achieve the correct height. This way, nothing is wasted. Offcuts of white are then recycled into smaller pieces to use in the Crescent Head collection. Wherever I can recycle something I will, including using an old CD case to mix the glue! Reducing waste isn’t about buying new plastic free items, to appear eco conscious. It’s about using what you already have, being creative and thinking ‘how can I reuse this?’. Everything should have a 3rd or 4th or 5th life, everything should be loved and cherished by each owner (but not like hoarders, we don’t want to end up on a TV show). Spread the love by getting creative!
When you buy a piece, it will come in a little newspaper bag that me and my website designer (the thing you’re using right now!) folded at a pub the other day, whilst educating the locals on plastic pollution. Fun fact, I accidentally broke her feet with a tractor once, true story! But there were clearly no hard feelings there as she’s the reason this exists! Anyway, once your piece is safely inside our little paper bags, it goes into a bio compostable bag from The Better Packaging Co. Then we seal it shut with a sticker from @blackrainbowprinting, their ink is chemical free and everything is bio-compostable. We even carbon offset all postage within Australia and internationally.
